Our workplans 2024-25

Overview

Outcomes

The WCC Vision and Theory of Change point to three key outcomes:

  • Women’s leadership, agency and influence on climate action reflects their right as half the population to fully participate in policy development and decision making at all levels in partnership with men.

  • Climate action is based on the science, and on collaboration and cooperation to build inclusive, fair and united policy.

  • Nurture of life and care for the earth are at the centre of every government decision.

Strategic focus areas 2024-2025

To move us towards these outcomes in 2024-25, the WCC will focus on these action areas:

  • Elevate gender equality as a vital component of action on climate change, and call for a gender lens to be applied to strategy and priority areas for climate action in Australia and internationally.

  • Advocate with parliamentarians and other leaders for united and accelerated climate action in line with the WCC Charter for Change.

  • Strengthen the agency of women in Australia and across the world who call for urgent action to restrict global warming to 1.5⁰C and a just transition that supports longer-term human and planetary wellbeing.

In the context of the growing urgency of the UN COPs WCC has added a specific ambition to:

  • initiate a pre-COP international women’s congress, to bring women’s voices, policy agendas and solutions to the table in a major way to COP31 in 2026.

A full expression of our goals, with suggested policy solutions, created from conversations with 100s of women, is expressed in the WCC Charter for Change.

Methods

  • Political influence

Promote multipartisan, ambitious climate action and nurture of life through the agency and leadership of women in policy, governance and community.

  • Grassroots activities

Create space and inspiration for women, in all our diversity, to explore our agency and share the Charter for Change call to climate action.

  • Affiliation and collaboration

Connect and collaborate with other organisations engaged in action on climate change, gender equality, intergenerational equity and social inclusion in Australia and internationally.

  • Organisational development

Build a sustainable organization that nurtures women and values their skills and contribution whether paid or unpaid, while securing a financial base to build capacity and support core administration and activities of the WCC.
